What to Expect with Wide Width Carpets

Wide-width woven carpets are getting popular, allowing for fewer or even no seams in larger rooms. This is especially useful for large loop and patterned carpets where seams are harder to hide.

Designers love the new wide-width woven wool carpets. We’re seeing a number of new products from Antrim, Crescent, Rosecore, Cavan and Hibernia that are 15′ wide.

There are even some extremely wide carpets like the 16’4″ rolls from Kaleen.

There’s one problem with these wide carpets. They weigh a ton! If we’re going to do a whole room (as opposed to an area rug) it may take as many as four guys to get that rug up the stairs and jockey it around the room.

In other words, it may take more labor and more time to install. A job that you think could be done in one day may take two.

Overall, it’s a great thing to have these wide width carpets. They’re especially useful for woven wool carpets with loops and patterns where it’s more difficult to hide seams.

Because they’re heavy, just know it may take more time and work than you might think.
