STOP Using Quarter Rounds on Top of Carpet

For Ken, quarter rounds on top of carpet are one of his pet peeves.

Why Quarter Rounds Should be Avoided on Top of Carpet

Remember, carpet must sit tightly between the edge of the tackless strip and the baseboard or the wall—not possible with a quarter round due to its rounded edge.

I want to tell you about something that is irritating. Sometimes, particularly in older homes, we’ll find shoe molding or quarter rounds on top of carpet.

It’s important to take that shoe molding or quarter round off. Carpet installation requires that you tuck that carpet to a vertical edge, not a rounded edge.

Why? Because that carpet is supposed to sit tightly between the edge of the tackless strip and the baseboard or the wall.

So remember, when you’re specifying carpet for a room in a house, take off the quarter rounds and touch up the baseboards. That will provide a nice and flat surface to tuck the carpet into.
