Stains or Damage to Stair Carpet? Don’t Give Up Hope.

If you saved leftover pieces from the original job (and, in the case of a runner, remember the original binding color) it’s possible to restore your stair carpet to its original appearance.

Runners on stairs are not usually made in one continuous piece.

Generally speaking, if you’ve got 12 steps and order a carpet that’s 13′ 2″ wide, you’ll go with a 5′ 3″ length or a 7′ length. We’ll cut the carpet into three pieces (not including waste) and do the runner that way.

That waste, or leftover carpet, is important to save. Tell your client to keep it! In addition, make a note of the binding color that you chose for the stair carpet.

The beautiful thing about stairs (since they’re usually installed in pieces) is that stains or snags can fixed. We can simply replace the problem step with leftover carpet.

Again, the critical points are that the customer keeps the leftover carpet and knows the binding color.
