Remember, avoid placing serged rugs in high traffic areas.

Why We Love (and Don't Love) Serged Rugs

We love the artisan look of serged rugs, but they are delicate. In under a year, the serging on our showroom rug is already coming undone!

I love the look of serged rugs and I’m sure you like the look of serging too.

But there’s also something I don’t like about serging. When a carpet gets a lot of wear and tear, that’s when the yarns break and serging begins to look terrible.

Take a look at the rug in our showroom in the video above or in the photos further down the page. It’s been down for under a year and, already, the serging is coming apart. We’re going to have to send the rug to the serging hospital!

To make matters worse, if the carpet has been down for a long time, you might have trouble matching the serging fiber. In that scenario, the whole piece may need to be redone.

Narrow carpet binding is a good choice for durability. Serging, on the other hand, is more delicate.

The moral of the story? Try to keep serging out of high traffic areas.
