The British have an expression: Mind the gap.
I’m here to tell you that I DO mind the gap.
I’ve found this issue on boats and in commercial buildings. People carve out a recessed space in the floor. (They have something like tile or wood along the sides and carpet in the center.)
Here’s the problem: If that carpet happens to be a woven carpet, it’ll shrink when it gets wet. That’ll leave a big gap along the sides where the floor is recessed.
So, if you happen to be doing an intricate design where you’re inserting carpet into an area that is otherwise tile or wood, make sure that, either:
1.) It’s not a woven carpet or,
2.) Avoid getting the carpet wet and be careful with the cleaning method—no hot water extraction
