Designers will sometimes specify carpet tiles for commercial spaces.
They’ve come a long way! For instance, you can regularly buy carpet tiles as planks and find beautiful colors and textures.
One thing to know about carpet tiles is that, eventually, you will see the outline of the tile.
They can have other issues too. Below are a few photos from carpet tile I found in an airport recently. There are ‘sprouts’ coming up along the edges of the tile.
That’s because when the tiles are cemented down, the edges are not sealed. (They’re not supposed to be sealed!)
If these sprouts come up, it’s no big deal. Take a little nail scissor and cut them off. Maybe use a little seam sealer to secure the edge.
Carpet tile is a very practical choice. Just keep in mind that they do look different than regular carpets and they come with different problems. Be prepared and don’t be alarmed.
