KEN FAIN, Owner – Carpet Workroom of Newport
“Many of the designers who work with Carpet Workroom of Newport are not just looking for what we do—carpet, hardwood or tile. They’re also looking for other elements, such as wallpaper.
Well, it just so happens that I know one of the best in the business, my friend Aaron Jurgens. He’s been doing wallpaper for many years.
If you have clients near Newport, RI who have wallpaper needs, I wanted to introduce you to Aaron and talk with him a little bit about what he does.
Aaron—what do you particularly enjoy about doing wallpaper?”
AARON JURGENS – Cutting Edge Professional Painting
“Thanks, Ken. It’s simply the transformation. Taking a space that’s—well, ordinary. For instance, a half bathroom. And then completely transforming it.
It also happens quickly, over the course of a day.”

“So, you can actually repair wallpaper? You’ve had experience doing that?”
AARON JURGENS – Cutting Edge Professional Painting
“If, and only if, they have the original wallpaper.
A classic example is an electrician cutting a hole for a light switch and it goes in the wrong spot. Or, a light gets put in the wrong spot. It might be water damage.
It’s going to be done with some leftover paper or paper remnants that they have. Trying to get a paper that’s 40 years old and trying to copy that—it’s never going to happen. In that case, we’d need to redo the entire room.”

“What other specialties do you offer besides wallpaper?”
AARON JURGENS – Cutting Edge Professional Painting
“Well, as you know, the number one part of my business is painting. You can see examples of my work below.
When it comes to cabinets, I use pre-catalyzed lacquers. It gives me that brand new factory finish from the cabinet makers.
I have a lot of kitchen cabinet companies that will call me to do touch-ups for them. Or they’ll ask me to come and finish off the cabinets after installation.”

“What is the difference between a master wallpaperer and someone who just hangs wallpaper?”
AARON JURGENS – Cutting Edge Professional Painting
“I think it comes down to timing. If I’m doing a room I block out a day. I charge a day rate for my wallpaper.
Whereas somebody who is maybe rushing it a little bit or charging by the foot—it’s a different end result.
When I block out a certain amount of time to do a project I can make sure everything is lined up and tight where it needs to be.”
KEN FAIN, Owner – Carpet Workroom of Newport
“I think our custom installation manager for carpet would say the same thing. It’s about patience and taking your time.”
AARON JURGENS – Cutting Edge Professional Painting
“It’s true for any trade. Do it once do it right. There’s nothing worse than going to a wallpaper job and seeing adhesive residue on the wallpaper or the trim work.
It’s the extra time to get those cuts right and leaving it just perfect.”
