Designers Love Linoleum? Yes, Here’s Why

Linoleum fits neatly into the ‘mid-century modern’ design resurgence. It comes in a rainbow of colors and offers durability at a great price without trying to imitate other products like wood or stone.

I’m really surprised about the number of linoleum floors that we are asked to install.

What am I talking about? Forbo marmoleum, the original linoleum. It’s the kind of linoleum that they put on battleships and that my grandfather installed about 100 years ago.

Why is it so popular among designers?

I think the first answer to that question is ‘mid-century modern’ style. There’s certainly been a resurgence of interest and linoleum is nothing if not part of that aesthetic.

The other thing to remember is that linoleum doesn’t try to look like anything else.

It’s not like vinyl trying to look like wood or vinyl trying to look like tile or stone. Linoleum looks like itself. It tends to be a quieter and more sophisticated look, yet it comes in a rainbow of different colors.

Not to mention that it is truly a green product—a lot of people love linoleum for that reason alone.

In the design world, linoleum is a durable style both in residential and commercial spaces. We love linoleum and if you have any questions about it, please give us a call at (401) 324-9215 or come visit our Middletown showroom. We’re happy to provide you free advice.
