When to Avoid Overseas Carpets on Backorder

Backorder dates for overseas carpet should be taken with a grain of salt

More About Overseas Carpet Backorders:

I want to talk to you about a nasty subject: Backorders with really expensive carpet that’s manufactured overseas.

We just had a situation where an Italian carpet mill gave us a 12-14 week backorder for a product. We just got an update: The backorder is now an additional four weeks.

Guess what? The carpet is for a commercial space that’s opening on a specific date.

We’ll be able to deal with it—but the thing you have to remember about backorders for overseas carpet is there’s so much that can go wrong.

You’re dealing with the country. You’ve got to worry about the shipping. Then, there’s the port in the United States. That’s a lot of things that are out of your control.

So, if timing is essential and you have to have a project done by a certain date—I’d be very skeptical of any backorder date that you receive.
