Many designers don’t love to buy off the rack. Instead, they may have ideas in their mind about patterns and colors that don’t yet exist! Other times, they may see a wallpaper or fabric that they like and wonder if it’s possible to get that same look on a carpet.
That’s why I’m very excited to talk today to Michelle Young about Brintons. One of the best parts of their program is the fact that you only need to order a minimum of 25 yards of material! That makes it much more accessible to create a custom piece of carpeting for your client.
As Michelle explains in the video above, Brintons carpets have been trusted for 240 yeas and is known throughout the world for quality Axminsters. Their QuickWeave program allows you to choose from thousands of archived styles or to create a custom pattern. Patterns can be both recolored AND resizes to fit your needs. And, as mentioned above, Brintons can also recreate patterns from other materials.
That whole design process only takes about 3-5 business days. Then you can approve a CAD and order strikeoffs—the first three of which are free. Once you’re happy with the design, Brintons estimates a 10-12 week turnaround until you have the carpet ready for install.
There are limitations when it comes to colors. Brintons has six different color pads to choose from. However, each custom carpet you create can only contain colors from one of these six colors pads—no mixing and matching.
That’s because the carpet looms are already set up with those colors—allowing for the aforementioned low minimums and quick production turnaround.
“It’s a lot of fun because it feels like you’re designing your own carpet,” Michelle Young said.
Brintons carpets use an 80% wool/20% nylon blend that allows for optimized performance from each fiber. (They also offer limited hues in 100% wool if that is your preference.) We have found British wool to be some of the sturdiest wool in the world.
