The most important thing when picking out carpet for any room in your house are questions of performance. It’s not the color or the style.
Here are some questions to ask yourself. Who is going to be in that house? Will people be taking their shoes off? Do you have kids? Do you have pets? Or especially, do you have cats who like to claw at ‘tempting’ carpet loops?
With that in mind, I want to draw your attention to three luxury carpets which make me nervous. You can see photos of each of these carpets below.
First, is a beautiful Fabrica carpet called White Noise. It contains many ‘white dots’ that look like snow. I dread what will happen if someone walks across the loop and it snags—then it would be a mess.
Then, there’s Cresent Coventry Cord which contains heavy, thick yarns. How are those going to stand up to normal foot traffic? Nevermind golf cleats.
Finally, from Prestige we have Darlie and Katara—two carpets which have little threads wrapped around some of the yarns. What happens when one of those threads gets snagged, ripped or torn?
Some of these issues can be fixed by your clients or by a professional. Some can’t be fixed. But that’s beside the point.
It’s important when you’re looking at a high style and high design carpet to consider whether it will stand up to your client’s lifestyle.
