Battiscopa Tile: Great for Modern Bathrooms

Battiscopa's recent resurgence is owed to the increasing popularity of larger wall tiles. You’ll find them most often on corners—especially in showers—so that you don’t see the unglazed edge of a tile.

I want to talk to you today about one of my favorite words: battiscopa.

What does it mean? Skirting board.

The interesting thing, from a design perspective, is that it refers to something almost never used for its original purpose.

Many years ago, people used to put tile base along the bottom of the wall, when they did a tile floor. Not so much anymore.

However, big tiles—which used to be put on the floor—are now often placed upon the wall. When you get to the end of a wall, you need a return to the wall (so that you don’t see the raw edge of the tile.)

Guess what you use? You use that same battiscopa.

Fear not: Even though now you’re putting larger tiles on the wall, particularly in showers, you have that battiscopa skirting board as a bullnose edge.
