Make Carpet Seams Less Noticeable for Your Client

Keep in mind doorways and light sources. NEVER cross-seam except under a bed.

Tip #1: Keep Seams Away From Doors

This one is simple: Doorways experience more foot traffic than the rest of the room. Seams near doors will be more visible and more prone to wear and tear.

For these reasons, it’s especially important to avoid bisecting a door with a carpet seam.

Tip #2: Seams Perpendicular to Major Light Source

When a seam is parallel to a light source, the light illuminates the entire seam. When seams are perpendicular to the light source, the seams are less conspicuous.

Tip #3: Stick to One-Piece Seams

When dealing with expensive woven carpets, one-piece seams are the rule. Cross seaming, or two-piece seams, simply don’t look good.

With that said, we acknowledge that cross seams will allow you to use less carpet material. If you want to do a two-piece seam, we recommend hiding it under a bed.
